Description:

The Legal Assistant/Paralegal is responsible for supporting lawyers in all aspects of file management and document preparation. This includes drafting routine documents, typing correspondence, collecting information relevant to matters, and liaising with clients. Our client is a reputable family law firm seeking to expand their team.

Essential Functions:
Answer incoming telephone calls as necessary.
Take accurate and detailed messages from callers and email details to the lawyer.
Maintain excellent relationships with clients.
Draft legal documents and correspondence for review and approval by lawyers.
Type correspondence and other documents from lawyers' dictation.
Proofread, verify, and edit all documentation for accuracy and clarity.
Compile disclosure documents.
Conduct simple research tasks.
Coordinate requests between multiple parties involved in a matter by communicating with clients and other lawyers/parties as needed.
Handle confidential information professionally and consistently with legal and ethical policies.
Ensure all outgoing documentation is recorded in FilePro, and incoming documents are scanned into FilePro as needed.
Maintain an accurate record of time spent on matters in FilePro.
Update client data in FilePro as necessary.
Handle filing, scanning, and photocopying tasks as required.
Maintain client hard copy files in strict accordance with the firm's procedures.
Check online court lists regularly.
Check lawyers' calendars in Outlook daily and assist with preparation for client consultations and court attendances.
Assist with Outside Clerk duties when the receptionist is unavailable.
Perform other duties as requested from time to time.

Skills Required:
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent grammar and writing skills.
Knowledge of Family Court procedures, rules, and regulations.
Resourceful research and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Qualifications and Experience:
Successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent.
A minimum of four years' experience in Family Law.
Well-groomed and well-spoken.
Advanced FilePro skills.
Experience in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, eCourts, and Landgate for searches.
