The Operation
Mount Isa Mines is one of Australia’s oldest, largest and most complex copper mining operations. It is the second largest producer of copper in Australia and a key asset in Glencore’s global mining portfolio.
Our business is integrated across the entire supply chain, from resource identification and development to production and distribution of copper cathodes to customers across the world. The Mount Isa Copper operation consist in an integrated Mine to Anode concentration and smelting process. We add value across all steps of our value chain by leveraging capability from our local and Global teams, and by leasing with the Glencore trading team to process custom ores and concentrates that deliver attractive profits to our business.

The Position
Reporting to the Operations Superintendent this role is offered to work on a 7/7 roster. This role has become available for a mining professional or experienced leader to take the next step in their leadership career with Glencore Mount Isa Mines. This challenging position exists to provide support to our Copper Operations in Mount Isa and will offer variety and opportunity for the right individual.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Providing expert assistance and advice on operational priority setting
- Coordinating and coaching of the mining teams to ensure that Mount Isa Mines receives the required level of services and support to meet budgeted operational and safety objectives
- Identify interactions and proactively manage activities to ensure that the business plan is achieved
- Implementing proactive strategies and developing standards in conjunction with the management team to ensure continuous improvement in the operational performance of the underground mine
- Implementing audit programs that monitor the compliance against system requirements and plans
- Coaching and mentoring of operational supervisors in regards to safety, frontline leadership and operational excellence
- Ensuring compliance with all Copper business unit policies and procedures in your area of responsibility
The successful candidate for this role will possess the following characteristics and experience:
- Demonstrated supervisory or mining professional experience in underground hard rock mining and related fields
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, and be a motivated, outcome oriented person
- Knowledge of applicable legislation, standards and codes of practice
- Exposure to scheduling and mine planning processes is highly regarded
- Knowledge of Safety Management Systems and incident recording/investigation systems
- Strong customer focus and attention to detail
- Ability to work well within a team environment as well as with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to lead and influence key decision makers within a mining environment
