About the Role

Under the guidance of the Mental Health Service Manager, the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Clinician will provide consultation liaison mental health services for children and adolescents presenting at the NBH Emergency Department (ED), the NBH Mental Health Service, and the general medical inpatient wards across NBH.

The Mental Health Clinician will conduct comprehensive assessments and offer a wide range of care advice and therapeutic interventions for children and adolescents grappling with moderate to severe or complex mental health issues, or encountering significant emotional and behavioural challenges.

Operating within a multidisciplinary framework, the Mental Health Clinician will establish and nurture strong partnerships with NBH clinicians throughout the Mental Health department and across the general hospital, including the ED.

Additionally, the role involves maintaining effective communication with General Practitioners as needed, as well as with other private allied health service providers, linked service providers, or new referrals. Emphasis will be placed on ensuring safe and seamless transitions of care for Child and Adolescent consumers from NBH inpatient settings to ongoing community care.

3. Have experience in Child and Adolescent consultation liaison services, Emergency Department Consultant Liaison, and/or Mental Health ward settings.

4. Demonstrate expertise in the comprehensive assessment, formulation, and treatment of Child and Adolescent mental health problems and family relationship issues.

5. Exhibit an understanding of the bio-psychosocial model, which examines the interplay between physiology, psychology, and sociology in human ill-health.

6. Work effectively within a multidisciplinary framework and possess the ability to cultivate strong working relationships.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • For Nursing: Current Registration with AHPRA, Bachelor of Science (Nursing) or equivalent, or other relevant qualification.
  • For Clinical Psychologists: Current registration with AHPRA, a Master's degree or higher in Clinical Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology, or a relevant clinical area of psychology recognized by the employer.
  • For Social Work: Current registration with AHPRA, experience as a Level 2 clinician, eligibility for membership of AASW.
  • For Occupational Therapists: Current AHPRA registration, experience as a Level 2 clinician.
  • For all Mental Health Clinician applicants: A minimum of 5 years' full-time postgraduate experience, with at least 3 years in the mental health field. Additionally, an approved postgraduate qualification relevant to mental health (or relevant field) or equivalent experience deemed suitable by the employer.

If you are successful in the role, you will receive a salary based on your years of relevant experience against the current applicable EBA dependent on your qualifications and experience. Either Clinical Nurse Consultant (Grade 1) with a salary between $63.71 - $65.02, or Allied Health Professional Level 3 (Occupational Therapist, Psychologist, or Social Worker) with a salary between $61.54 – 63.58 per hour.
