About the Opportunity

At Port Macquarie Hastings Council every employee plays a part in ensuring we work together to achieve positive outcomes for our community. To help us achieve this we are looking for two Financial Business Partners to support the organisation. These newly created positions sit within the Business & Performance Directorate. The Finance Business Partner is a vital position which will support the delivery of strategic and operations outcomes across Council through partnering with the business to build financial management capability, provide important insights and influence business performance.

Responsibilities Include

Financial Analysis:
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis to support decision-making processes.
  • Provide insights into key financial metrics and trends.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Collaborate with business units to develop budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitor and analyse financial performance against budget.
Strategic Partnership:
  • Act as a strategic partner to business leaders, providing financial guidance and support on a range of financial matters.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive business objectives
Performance Reporting:
  • Prepare and present regular financial reports to management.
  • Identify areas of improvement and efficiency in financial processes.
Risk Management:
  • Assess financial risks and opportunities, providing recommendations for mitigation.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and regulatory changes
What you’ll bring to the team

To be successful in this role you will need degree level qualifications in Accounting or Commerce and completed the CPA/CA program. You will also have excellent communication skills, be collaborative problem solver and have demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong stakeholder relationship across the organisation as well as.

  • Strong commercial business acumen and financial management skills including an ability to interpret financial reports for decision making.
  • Ability to write, oversee and influence business cases.
  • Ability to produce and interpret complex excel spreadsheets to assist in the formulation of budget compilation and forward estimate modelling.
  • Demonstrated experience in business partnering providing financial analysis, problem solving and providing guidance on financial management techniques to maximise results and deliver operational efficiency's.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development with membership of a professional accounting body highly regarded.
