DroneShield is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with an analytical approach to product development, to join the team in Sydney, Australia.

The position will report to the Design Engineering Lead and represents a unique opportunity to develop sophisticated leading-edge equipment and technology within the defence space. DroneShield has a strong foundation in design and engineering, with various industry-leading products performing with militaries and government agencies globally.

Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations

  • Contribute to the generation of new product design specifications and mechanical requirements

  • Develop and execute design verification testing, plans and reports (in-house), followed by managing 3rd party verification testing

  • Develop and implement ideas utilising CAD and produce manufacturable part and drawing packages

  • Utilise advanced analysis software and techniques to validate and affirm design decisions throughout the product development lifecycle

  • Interpret and apply relevant standards to ensure compliance and quality assurance

  • Liaise with designers, electronics engineers and the NPI and Manufacturing Teams to improve product quality, reliability, and manufacturability

  • Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, similar technical field of study

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a design/engineering role in a product design environment

  • Proficiency in software tools - SolidWorks and Ansys

  • Competency in conducting: FEA, Thermal Analysis, Structural Analysis, Vibration Analysis

  • Sound understanding of product development and testing for high volume manufacture

  • Knowledge of design for production processes including machining, sheet metal and injection moulding

  • A high level of competency in 3D CAD modelling and creating 2D drawings and specifications

  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills

  • A high level of creativity and able to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills

  • A portfolio showcasing prior work is an advantage

  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, deliver and meet deadlines

  • Keep yourself up to date with the latest technologies, tools and methods to be effective in your role

  • Previous experience working in defence, medical, aerospace or consumer electronics is favourable

  • Australian citizenship is preferred for Baseline and potential NV1 clearance
