DroneShield is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with an analytical approach to product development, to join the team in Sydney, Australia.
The position will report to the Design Engineering Lead and represents a unique opportunity to develop sophisticated leading-edge equipment and technology within the defence space. DroneShield has a strong foundation in design and engineering, with various industry-leading products performing with militaries and government agencies globally.
Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations

Contribute to the generation of new product design specifications and mechanical requirements

Develop and execute design verification testing, plans and reports (in-house), followed by managing 3rd party verification testing

Develop and implement ideas utilising CAD and produce manufacturable part and drawing packages

Utilise advanced analysis software and techniques to validate and affirm design decisions throughout the product development lifecycle

Interpret and apply relevant standards to ensure compliance and quality assurance

Liaise with designers, electronics engineers and the NPI and Manufacturing Teams to improve product quality, reliability, and manufacturability

Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers
Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, similar technical field of study

Minimum 3 years experience in a design/engineering role in a product design environment

Proficiency in software tools - SolidWorks and Ansys

Competency in conducting: FEA, Thermal Analysis, Structural Analysis, Vibration Analysis

Sound understanding of product development and testing for high volume manufacture

Knowledge of design for production processes including machining, sheet metal and injection moulding

A high level of competency in 3D CAD modelling and creating 2D drawings and specifications

Highly developed interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills

A high level of creativity and able to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills

A portfolio showcasing prior work is an advantage

The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, deliver and meet deadlines

Keep yourself up to date with the latest technologies, tools and methods to be effective in your role

Previous experience working in defence, medical, aerospace or consumer electronics is favourable

Australian citizenship is preferred for Baseline and potential NV1 clearance
