This is a permanent part-time (0.4FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2024

As a Technical Support Officer you will maintain networked information technology resources effectively and efficiently to maximise educational and administrative outcomes within the Department of Education (DoE) asset management and security regulatory framework.

The successful applicant will ideally have recent experience in a school setting, with a sound understanding of SOE4.6 environment and experience working with the Student Support Services (SSS) Dashboard. You will work with the Network Administrator in maintaining a large stock of computers and laptops in the computer labs, learning areas and offices. It would be highly desirable to have experience in the school context, particularly with Connect, Compass (or similar platforms), Mobile Device Management (MDM), Office 365, a basic understanding of Fortinet Firewalls, and expertise with trouble shooting Windows and MAC operating systems.

Byford SC encourages the use of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) by staff and students.

The successful applicant will provide technical support and training to all users throughout the schools including desktop and software application and access to systems and resources. They will also provide input on system enhancements and implement new systems through research and identification of appropriate information technology resources.

The successful applicant will be supporting multiple schools and should have a focus on teamwork, be self-motivated, and model high standards of customer service. Working hours will be agreed upon and reviewed annually and require flexibility to meet the school's various duties and service needs.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Skills in providing Information Communications Technologies support, including supporting windows and macOS devices, printers, telephones, mobile devices, tablets and their associated hardware and software.
  • Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and ability work as part of a team in the delivery of ICT projects and provide high level of customer service.
  • Good conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to develop solutions to information technology problems.
  • Ability to use an ICT support incident management, documentation and call logging system.
  • Initiative and organisational skills, including the ability to identify priorities and meet deadlines.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to :

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
