Role Description
We are looking for a mission and results-oriented leader to build and grow our engineering team as our engineering manager. You will directly report to the VP, Engineering and work with them to take our team of current engineers to the next level in terms of process, resourcing and investment. This is a full-time position.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for crafting and building an engineering organisation capable of delivering aspiring goals.
Engineering Velocity and Quality: Identify and implement the right engineering processes and structures that are required to ensure our team is delivering world-class outcomes in a swift and impactful manner.
Project Management:
- Along with the Product team, oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of the Forage roadmap.
- Manage timelines, scopes, and resources of sprints and projects effectively.
- Ensuring projects align with business objectives and user and customer needs.
- Identifying and mitigating project risks, including by effectively communicating technical issues and proposed solutions with key stakeholders.
Technical Oversight:
- Guide the technical direction and architecture of key projects in line with the Product Roadmap.
- Ensure consistent code quality and adherence to best practices.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Conducting and managing code reviews and technical audits.
Building empathy:
- Build empathy throughout our team, other teams in the company, and our users.
- Helps engineering team members see their role in the broader organisational context of Forage.
- Ensure our cornerstone values at Forage are upheld within the engineering team.
- Creating a strong team and culture:
- Attract and develop top-tier engineering talent and manage a team of engineers that is capable of delivering work and improvements that people otherwise thought impossible or too hard.
- Identify and develop leadership within the engineering team and foster a culture of performance.
Your Experience

- Relevant IT Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience
- 2+ years experience in hiring, leading, managing, and mentoring a team of engineers
- Proficient in Javascript and Node
- Experience working on complex web applications, ideally with React or similar frontend frameworks
- You have a solid knowledge of modern JavaScript, version control, and databases. Typescript is a bonus.
- Experience building user-facing products
- Experience building and writing automated tests
- Demonstrated experience managing and developing a team of developers - experience managing a team led by OKRs and prescribed goals is a bonus
- Experience at product-focused companies where delivering releases in a timely manner is key
- Experience scaling teams with different team structures and methodologies, and understanding the tradeoffs between each one
- Ability to synthesise complex issues engineering teams face and place them in the broader context of the missions and goals of a business
Skills
- Experience architecting web applications and the processes around them for success
- The ability to create technical roadmaps to scale and grow an organisation
- Can use various engineering, sprint, and roadmap management tools
- Excellent communication skills - both verbally and in writing
- Comfortable working in a constantly changing environment while remaining calm and composed during times of uncertainty, inspiring the same in team members
