Purpose of the position

Improving the wellbeing of children by connecting them to their families and culture through leadership of the Strong in Family & Culture program.

This position is responsible for the operational components involved in improving children’s wellbeing by strengthening their cultural and family connections in accordance with the Strong in Family & Culture program’s values, policies and procedures. It involves providing leadership and support to team members, and collaborating with colleagues, stakeholders and most importantly, giving voice to children and families.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Ensuring all children in the SFC program are safely connected to their family and culture and have a positive experience in the program demonstrable through improved wellbeing
  • Ensuring the Strong in Family & Culture program is implemented to a high standard and identifying ways to continually improve the program and its outcomes
  • Ensuring record keeping, data management and administration processes and systems function to a high standard and generate accurate and timely reports
  • Leading and supporting team members to perform their roles to a high standard
  • Collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders to improve the child’s experience, ensure professional practice and to identify alternative opportunities and outcomes for the child
  • Managing SFC resources and quality assurance processes
  • Representing CQID in relevant community and sector discussions
  • Work always to advance the reputation of CQID and undertake additional relevant duties as required
  • Participate and contribute to the organisation’s compliance obligations under the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and Human Services Quality Standards (HSQS)
  • At all times work within CQID’s Workplace Health & Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Other responsibilities as directed by the General Manager Social Services

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Human services or related field
  • Qualification or extensive knowledge related to Child Protection
  • Experience at successful service delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Experienced in client engagement and case collaboration

Skills and Attributes

Essential

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage
  • Strong connection to and knowledge of local Indigenous community
  • Demonstrated leadership capability in a development environment
  • High level of cultural capability and commitment to culture as a protective factor for the wellbeing of vulnerable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who are disconnected from their families and culture
  • Demonstrated professionalism and capability to manage workload and motivation for self and others
  • High standard of written and oral communication skills as appropriate to a child protection setting
  • Capability to engage positively with diverse stakeholders including trauma affected children and senior leaders
  • High level organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and work under pressure.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated personal qualities, such as professionalism, personal initiative, creativity and good judgement, working both within a team and autonomously
  • Competent in use of Microsoft Office software
  • Self-starter, motivated and able to self-manage work tasks
  • Physical ability to undertake job responsibilities
