Bis are now currently recruiting for Mechanical Tradesperson's to join our team, based out of our Tomago Office. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing business and industry and is an ideal role for Mechanical Tradesperson either wanting to transition into the mining industry and gain some new skills on underground diesel mining equipment. OR The perfect opportunity for a Mechanical Tradesperson that is wanting to step back from the long commute, shift work and rotating rosters and reap the rewards of a work/life balance , whist still working on heavy machinery for a leading underground mining company.
Reporting to the Workshop Manager, the Mechanical Tradesperson role is responsible for the repair and maintenance such as servicing, component replacement, component overhaul, general repairs and reconditioning works on a variety of Underground Mobile Equipment such as Loaders, Driftrunners, PJB Minecruisers, Continuous Miners, Graders, Shuttle Cars, Feeder Breakers, Power Generators and Ancillary Equipment.
Requirements of the Role:
  • Cert III in Engineering Mechanical Trade OR Cert III in Mobile Plant Technology (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 12 months’ post trade experience.
  • Previous experience with repairing underground mobile plant (desirable) OR Previous experience with repairing opencut mining mobile plant (desirable).
  • Explosion Protected Diesel Engine Systems – Code D inspections and installation (preferred).
  • Sound knowledge and experience in the application of mining equipment and its life cycle.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics and drawings.
  • Ability to use measuring equipment.
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic experience (preferred)
  • Current drivers’ licence.

Who is Bis?
Bis own the largest fleet of Underground Hire Equipment in the Coal Mining Industry. We provide casual and long-term hire of run of mine equipment including Load Haul Dump (LHD) Machines, Graders, and Personnel Transporters. Bis also provide casual and long-term hire of Longwall Move Equipment including Mules, Heavy Lift Load Haul Dump Machines, Pan Pickers and Dozers, ensuring greater security and flexibility while preserving valuable capital for our clients.
Our Diesel and Electrical Services Division offer complete equipment overhauls, scheduled servicing and machine repairs using the workshop base, and field service crews equipped to operate autonomously at the site of the customer.
