Retail Technology is responsible for the world-leading application of technology and operations across every aspect of CommBank and Bankwest Retail - from innovative product platforms for our customers, to essential tools within our business. We also use technology to drive simplicity and better banking, an essential component of great customer service underpinning a strong emphasis on software development as a craft and the adoption of industry best engineering practices.
You'll be part of the Everyday Products crew, which sits within the Retail Technology - Everyday Banking team. Specifically you'll be responsible for developing and owning the technology estate that underpins our retail transaction, debit and retail FX products to deliver simple, innovative and leading customer experiences.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will help to shape the future of our digital platform while focusing on designing, developing, and deploying innovative technology solutions that will enable us to build tomorrow's bank today. You'll be hands-on coding and be responsible for shaping the evolution of this system by designing and developing micro services, data access layers, REST API(s), and writing integration services for third-party API consumption, manage risk with safe deployments and automated testing, as well as learning more about DevSecOps engineering. You'll also be invited to join our regular engineering guilds and provide technical guidance to the junior members of the team.

- Passion about building developing and deploying high quality software solutions
- Experience with the full software development lifecycle and delivery using Agile practices with specific focus on the following concepts: source control, CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure cloud pipelines, logging and monitoring.
- Ability to do high level solution designing and development.
- Ability to collaborate, present ideas, influence and challenge stakeholders.
- You're actively involved in continuous learning, experimentation and innovation, ready to apply and promote industry best patterns and practices, driving high quality outcomes to solve core business objectives
- You're constantly thinking outside the box and breaking boundaries to solve complex technical problems
Tech Skills
- We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don't expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team:
- Proven hands-on experience in developing backend applications using C# .NET Core, REST APIs and WebAPI
- Proficient in developing front-end applications using React
- Demonstrated knowledge of micro services, REST API Integration and API security principles
- Ability to create database designs for both relational and NoSQL databases (e.g. MSSQL, Oracle, Snowflake)
- Build and hosting technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker)
- Source code control tools (e.g., GitHub, TeamCity)
- Familiarity with public cloud engineering - AWS or Azure and Kafka/event-based architecture
- Understanding of monitoring tools and CI/CD pipeline.
