About the role – Maximum term, full-time until 30 June 2025

Baptist Care SA have partnered with Sonder and Lutheran Care to deliver targeted services appropriate for adults with or at risk of mild mental health conditions, moderate and severe mental health conditions, and suicide and/or self-harm, as well as children 0-11 years and their families who are presenting mild to moderate mental health concerns. The services are delivered through the Western Wellbeing Hub (‘The Hub’) which is an Adelaide Primary Mental Health (APHN) funded service, based in Port Adelaide, that aims to remove barriers to access for people experiencing mental health challenges and distress. The Hub offers booked appointments an and a walk in clinic.

The Mental Health Practitioner - Low Intensity (MHP-LI) role sits in a multi-disciplinary and multi-organisational team to deliver short term solution focused, low intensity evidence-based support to individuals, couples, families, and their children from 0 – 11 years. The role offers support such as individual brief intervention therapy, various group therapeutic options and psychoeducation to address a broad range of personal and interpersonal concerns or problems.

Key responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Deliver low-intensity CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) brief intervention client-focused counselling services for clients across the life span - including children from 0 – 11 and their families and other people who have responsibility for the child in line with program and clinical guidelines.
  • Therapeutic and psychoeducation group program development and implementation (for clients, parents, carers, and other significant people in the child’s life), where appropriate and necessary to support individual and family functioning.
  • Deliver a client-centred practice approach based on the organisations Tapa Marnini-Apinthi best practice framework.
  • You will contribute to the ongoing review and evaluation of service delivery to ensure the continuous improvement of our services, enhancement of our client wellbeing, independence, and choice.

About you:

You will be self-motivated, creative, engaging and have an attention to detail and an awareness of the bigger picture. You understand the importance of working collaboratively, holistically & systemically to support community connectedness and can conduct a professional, clinical, and evidence-based counselling support to adults, children (alongside their families and their community of care) to build capacity and create sustainable outcomes. You are motivated by working towards a best practice model for your clients, through the collection of data, continual research, and evaluation.

You will also have the following skills and experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and experience (Minimum degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or similar as required by the funding body and the organisation)
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of counselling as part of an organisation providing mental health services, and/or the delivery of professional counselling services to adults, children and/or families.
  • Evidence of competent experience and ability for provision of therapeutic group facilitation, presenting or training.
  • Demonstrated adaptability as and when required, the ability to be flexible and open to change within the scope of your role

Specific Requirements:

You will be required to have, or be willing to obtain:

  • Full unrestricted South Australia Driver’s Licence
  • DHS Child-Related Employment Screening or Working with Children check
  • National Police Clearance
  • Safe Environments for Children and Young People (Through Their Eyes) Certificate or willingness to obtain
  • Ability to work outside of normal office hours may be required
  • To be considered for employment with Baptist Care SA, you must have an up-to-date Covid 19 Vaccination status or be able to provide an appropriate medical exemption.
