Description:

The Director, Project Management reports to the Executive Director, Delivery and supports the Major Projects team in facilitating key construction projects. This role leads the initiation, planning, delivery, and oversight of complex capital works projects on behalf of Public Works and other agencies that deliver positive economic and social outcomes.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the planning and delivery of large and complex capital projects on behalf of the state, including managing the feasibility, design, and construction stages of projects.
  • Provide leadership and advice to the Delivery team to ensure the State's objectives are achieved in a timely, efficient and cost-effective way.
  • Provide authoritative advice to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and key project stakeholders on strategic policy and legislative requirements as they relate to the planning, delivery and close out of complex capital works projects.
  • Provide authoritative advice to the ELT and key project stakeholders on the suitability of alternative procurement methodologies in relation to managing risk to government and maximising project benefits.
  • Negotiate complex consultancy agreements and supervise and manage consultants undertaking major consultancy activities on behalf of the state in relation to complex capital works projects.
  • Critically analyse proposals, reports, and submissions in relation to the planning and implementation of projects.
  • Engage with enterprise to investigate innovative opportunities in the delivery of capital works projects that maximise economic and social outcomes.
  • Prepare high quality policy papers, briefs, and reports, including cabinet submissions and other significant policy and project management papers on complex issues relevant to complex capital works projects.
  • Provide verbal briefings on project risks to senior government officers and ministers during project meetings.
  • Following project management principles, plan, execute and report on the progress and success of the Delivery portfolio.
  • Negotiate appropriate fees with client agencies, when applicable.


What We Are Looking For

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the building and construction industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver and administer projects, working with program and project teams, including consultants and/or multi-disciplinary teams to ensure that risks are effectively managed and key program and project milestones are achieved.
  • Demonstrated experience with implementing effective change in a workplace.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to negotiate complex stakeholder environments.
