About Us:

Victim Services, Support and Reform (VSSR) is a part of the Police, Racing, Victims and Coordination Group of the Department of Justice and Community Safety and is responsible for coordinating a suite of services for victims of crime including funding state-wide services to provide eligible victims with practical assistance, counselling and support through the justice system as well as operating the Victims of Crime Helpline (Helpline).

About the Role:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Victims of Crime Helpline, the role of the Victim Support Officer (VSO) is to provide informed and up-to-date advice, support and information about victim services and entitlements, and referrals to other services. A VSO is required to work flexibly over shifts between 7am to 11pm across 7 days per week including weekends and public holidays.

Some of your duties will include:

  • As part of a team, acting as a first point of contact for enquiries to the Helpline by responding to calls, emails, electronic referrals, and text messages.
  • Providing up-to-date advice on victim entitlements, support services and referral pathways to victims of crime and victims of family violence.
  • Conveying information clearly and accurately, responding to clients, stakeholders, and team members in a professional, sensitive, respectful, and empathetic manner.

About You:

As an ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • An understanding of the victim support service system and associated legislation.
  • Experience in direct human service delivery where there are sensitive and complex needs, working from a trauma-informed perspective.

Qualifications:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and/or extensive equivalent experience is desirable.
