Payroll Officer (Maternity Cover)

Rombola Family Farms encompasses over 4,000 hectares of intensive irrigated horticultural production at Griffith (NSW), Bundaberg (QLD) and Mataranka (NT). Agricultural enterprises include Seedless Watermelon, Rockmelons, Broccoli, Pumpkin, Almonds and Winegrapes. Operations include primary production, processing, value adding and marketing.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Payroll Officer to join our team in Griffith, NSW on a full-time temporary basis (maternity cover) for a period of 6 months (July 2024 – December 2024) with the possibility of an extension. The ideal candidate will be responsible for processing payroll accurately and efficiently, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and company policies. This position will play a key role in maintaining payroll records, resolving payroll discrepancies, and providing excellent customer service to employees.


This role is office based only.


Key accountabilities include:

  • Maintain payroll information including the collection, calculation, and entering of data.
  • Updates payroll records when required.
  • Coordinate time recording and payroll processing for direct and indirect employees.
  • Reconcile time recording for direct and indirect employees to ensure hours are available for payroll processing.
  • Reconcile weekly labor hire invoices.
  • Prepares reports by compiling summaries of wages and salaries, pay as you go (PAYG), deductions, leave, superannuation, and non-taxable wages.
  • Determines payroll liabilities of employee wages and salaries, PAYG, superannuation, and workers compensation payments.
  • Balances the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies.
  • Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests.
  • Ensures employees payroll minimum entitlements are met.
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources (HR) and accounting teams to accomplish related results as needed.
  • Reconcile end of the month wages to process superannuation and payroll tax payments.
  • Supervise employee’s performance and compliance with Rombola Family Farms systems of work.
  • Provides training, supports, and develops employees.
  • Voice concerns with management and assist in problem solving to resolve concerns.

To be successful in the role you will possess the following:

  • Minimum Certificate III in Business or Financial Services. A Bachelor’s Degree in finance related fields will be an advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Payroll.
  • Understanding of payroll compliance.
  • General knowledge of Modern Awards and other state and industry legislation.
  • Knowledge of general payroll practices, procedures, operations, and legislation.
  • Team supervising experience.
  • Must have excellent time management and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast and high-paced environment with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Honesty, integrity, and discretion.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a broader team.
  • Ability to identify and solve issues proactively.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport.
  • Flexibility in hours worked to achieve operational targets.
  • A sense of urgency and a can-do attitude
  • Advanced computer software skills, Word and Excel and other accounting / payroll packages.
  • A current driver’s licence and own transport

Rombola Family Farms is a large scale, progressive, privately owned horticultural business based 20kms North of Griffith, NSW. The company operates counter-seasonal operations in Mataranka (Northern Territory), and in Bundaberg (Queensland), allowing us to supply our melons and pumpkins to our customers year-round.
