We currently have an exciting opportunity in Sydney which plays a major part in the success of Hannover Re globally. We are a lead reinsurer in Australia and New Zealand and we have the benefit of being flexible and nimble with the financial backing of one of the largest reinsurers in the world.
We are seeking an Underwriter Property Facultative to join our team within our Property & Casualty branch. The role will be a permanent position reporting directly to our Head of Facultative.
Key Responsibilities
About the role
You will be responsible for contributing to defining the Branch strategy, continuous improvement of the underwriting approach and composition of facultative portfolio and building and maintaining relationships with clients.
Your day may look a little like:
- Underwriting for the Australasia facultative team in accordance with the agreed Hannover Re Strategy, internal guidelines and profitability requirements
- Contributing to the development and improvement of the Australian Branch Strategy
- Looking to continuously improve the underwriting approach and composition of facultative property portfolio
- Building and maintaining relationships with clients (cedants / brokers) through regular communication and visits in AU / NZ
- Effectively collaborating with all internal stakeholders
- Monitoring of quality assurance in underwriting and introducing necessary system changes
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
You will need to have:
- More than 5 years of direct and/or reinsurance property (and ideally engineering) underwriting experience in the Australasian market
- Academic degree in economics, engineering or related subject
- Relationship management skills
- Exercise discretion and independent judgement in the analysis and evaluation of risk including EML calculation
- Good level of technical knowledge and skills including product & industry
- Strategic thinking capabilities
- Ability to liaise with senior level management
- Good organisation, attention to detail and ability to prioritise effectively
- Clear and effective communication both written and verbal
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
