As a Media & Communications Associate, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping brand, engaging stakeholders, and driving proactive and reactive media presence. Plus, with plans to revamp branding and website in 2024, there's never been a more exciting time to join the team!
The agency attracts routine media interest and has an audience of highly engaged stakeholders across the private sector and government, with whom they are building a collaborative, professional reputation.
Reporting to the Head of Communications, the primary focus of this role will be to implement the organisation's media and communication strategies, championing their brand and telling their stories. You will provide expert advice as the organisation grows their proactive and reactive media presence in a positive direction, and engage stakeholders through various channels including website and social media.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive communications plans
- Assist in managing emerging issues and facilitate background briefings
- Write communication materials including press releases, event briefings, speeches
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists and external suppliers
- Coordinate media interviews, press conferences and other events
- Monitor media coverage and social media platforms for emerging news
- Provide guidance on responses to media inquiries and public inquiries.
- Write and publish new content on the website and social media platforms
- Support spokespeople during public appearances and media interviews
- Maintain a communications calendar and analyse performance metrics
Skills and Experience required:
We are seeking a skilled Communicator with proven experience in media relations and corporate communications within agency, corporate, NGO, or government sectors. Any prior experience in finance, investment, infrastructure, resources, renewables, agriculture, medial science, or other industry sector translating information into accessible content will be highly regarded.
- 5 - 8 years experience in media relations and corporate communications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong judgment and ability to make decisions
- Demonstrated track record in executing communication strategies
- Experience with social media management tools and analytics platforms
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Proficient editing skills, with an understanding of accessibility and readability requirements and ideally a working knowledge of SEO
- Proficiency in technical skills or a willingness to learn (eg. Drupal, Google Analytics etc)
- Experience managing relationships with external and creative suppliers highly regarded
- Tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications, or related subject preferred
