Current Bronze Medallion or the ability to obtain and maintain one.

Purpose of the Position

The Student Recreation Officer is employed to provide culturally appropriate sport and recreational activities for the benefit of students residing on the Batchelor Campus. The Student Recreation Officer works part time (including after-hours and weekends) to support a sport and recreational program. This position will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Student Experience Directorate to enhance the experience of students.

Duties
  • Be the focal point for enquiries on Batchelor campus regarding information and processes related to sport and recreational programs, provisions, and activities.
  • Liaise with appropriate staff members, divisions of the Institute or external stakeholders to plan, design, cost, implement and coordinate an annual sport and recreational program for students.
  • Circulate a weekly sport and recreational program for students.
  • Create, design, implement, and maintain a recreational equipment loan process and asset register.
  • Create and maintain activity and attendance statistical data regarding sport and recreational provisions, programs, and activities.
  • Assist in the organisation of, or undertake, the transporting of students, to and from, sport and recreational activities, as required.
  • Assist with Orientations for VET and Higher Education & Research students and candidates, Institute staff and prospective clients.
  • Undertake other duties within the range of skills associated with this classification as directed by the line manager.

  3. Demonstrated capability in the understanding and interpretation of procedures that relate to Commonwealth/State legislation.
  4. Demonstrated capability in participating in a diverse team to obtain outcomes of success.
  5. Ability to demonstrate meeting multiple and conflicting deadlines and work autonomously.
  6. Understanding of Work, Health and Safety, Equity and Anti-discrimination principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.

Batchelor Institute Expectations
  • Contribute to the efficient and effective functioning of their team or work unit to meet the Institute’s objectives.   • Work at and travel between other Institute campuses or to other locations from time to time as may be required during the course of employment.
  • Complete all mandatory training such as required by the Institute.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the principles of anti-discrimination, staff and student equity, work health and safety and other relevant legislation, and show the willingness and capacity to implement equal employment opportunity and work health and safety plans, policies, and programs.
  • Applicants must be able and willing to undertake travel throughout the NT and Interstate (sometimes as a light aircraft passenger) and possess a C class Driver’s Licence.
Work Health & Safety
  • Ensure all activities comply with WHS legislation and Institute policies & procedures.
  • Implement & monitor risk management activities including, but not limited to, workplace inspections, incident/hazard investigation and follow-up, and implementation of risk controls.
  • Analysis of WHS training requirements for staff including the provision of training and monitoring of training to ensure completion and currency.
