This is a Permanent Full Time and Fixed Term Full Time appointment with the possibility of extensions and or permanency.

Position Profile: We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our Disaster Preparedness and Management Directorate as a Senior Policy Officer.

This position establishes, maintains, coordinates, and monitors strategic emergency management plans and provides policy and strategic advice on these matters to the Manager Response Capability and the overarching business functions for the Disaster Preparedness and Management Directorate.

As a Program Officer , your duties include the following:

  • Liaise with stakeholders regarding the implementation of emergency management policies, guidelines, and initiatives as per the Australian Standards.
  • Manage Directorate portfolios assigned to the role, including management of plans, standard operating procedures, and operational templates, and represents the Department of Health at State and national bodies.
  • Liaise and corresponds with other government and non-government emergency management services e.g., Police, Fire and Rescue, Ambulance services, and local government, as necessary, for emergency management purposes.
  • Coordinates the portfolio related activities of the Disaster Preparedness and Management Section of the Department of Health.
  • Consults with health service managers regarding the implementation of recommendations following exercises, incident debriefs.
  • Provides emergency management advice to the Manager Response Capability as it applies in a public hospital setting.
