The Role

Black Star Pastry is thriving, having just moved into our new, purpose built Kitchen HQ in Alexandria, we're looking for a full-time qualified Pastry Chefs – Chef de Partie to lead our Cake team.

This is a full-time opportunity suited to Pastry Chefs with at least 3 years’ experience who will have the opportunity to craft our acclaimed cakes, and develop your skills as a Pastry Chef working with an amazing team.

Your main responsibilities will include -

  • Ensure all pastry products are prepared and baked according to the specific store requirements.
  • Maintain a detailed knowledge of the full product range.
  • Coordinate and oversee the supervision of a section
  • Follow and adhere to recipe specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements of food hygiene regulations.
  • Ensure all policies, procedures, standards and safety guidelines are followed.

About You

  • Previous experience in a Senior Pastry Chef – Chef de Partie role.
  • Full understanding of how the role contributes to the success of the store, including a focus on quality control and operational efficiencies.
  • Good working knowledge of the restaurant and hospitality industry.
  • Able to build effective and constructive relationships – a true team player!
  • Ability to communicate clearly, professionally and concisely.
  • Exceptional organisational skills.
  • Good judgement and confident to make informed decisions.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible to changing business demands.

Our Business

Black Star Pastry opened its first boutique patisserie in Newtown in 2008 and since then we have grown into an institution with four stores across Sydney, one in Melbourne’s St Kilda, and we are soon to open our innovative new store at Chadstone.

We are most famous for our Strawberry Watermelon Cake which has become a social media sensation, with the New York Times declaring it “the world’s most instagrammed cake.”
