The CompanyOur Melbourne based client are an established, initially family-owned organisation who develop a range of bulk & material handling solutions, mainly for large retail companies like Coles, Woolworths, & Kmart, to name a few. They have a large pipeline of both standard & custom-built projects currently in the mix and are looking to expand their team to accommodate for future growth capabilities.
Given how busy our client is now, they need someone who has the capability to hit the ground running, standardizing design processes for their main applications, with the capability to then become involved in a range of R&D based projects. This design engineer will be involved across the entire DFM lifecycle and will utilise out-of-the-box thinking and problem-solving skills to drive future innovation.
Responsibilities
- Work in collaboration with a team of design engineers to develop specific structures/componentry and new products, resolving any issues that come up across the drafting/design stage, in compliance with the Australian Design Rules (ADR).
- Involvement in all design engineering duties across a project including the development of 3D CAD drawings/models utilising Solidworks, creating a BOM list, providing technical & non-technical documentation of activities across the DFM lifecycle.
- Developing design changes that take into consideration material costs, time targets, company/project targets and manufacturability of designs, in accordance with customer specifications.
- Liaise with a range of other teams including sales, production, and management personnel, to ensure all issues that come up are accurately resolved.
Your Background/Experience
- Tertiary qualifications across Mechanical Engineering.
- Ideally has 3-5 years’ worth of commercial experience, designing/fabricating & assembling sheet metal & steel structural components, within the bulk/materials handling space.
- Experience designing & developing chutes, compactors, crushing/screening equipment within the bulk/materials handling or recycling, waste management space, would be ideal.
- Demonstrated experience using Solidworks/Solidworks PDM Vault. Ability to problem solve & be methodical and adaptable in your design approach.
- Knowledge of hydraulics system design & structural platforms designs is desirable.
- Demonstratable FEA experience is desirable.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and is adaptable to changing priorities.
- Has a keen eye for detail and works in a collaborative fashion across projects.
