This position is responsible for managing regional compliance operations for the Coastal and Islands Region including the development of Compliance Strategies, progression of formal investigations, and compliance reporting. The Coastal Islands region experiences very high visitation and high-profile compliance issues.

This role is responsible for managing the Automatic Number Plate Recognition System (ANPRS) and associated compliance actions and data management. Tasks will be concentrated on collation and interpretation of system data, determination of infringements of the RAM act, investigations and storage, management, and reporting of system data.

It provides expert advice, guidance, and direction to the team, managing escalated and/or more technically complex and contentious compliance related issues, for the development and endorsement of approaches and/or options for approval by the delegate.

You will be required to train and mentor individuals who are undertaking compliance activities and work closely with operational rangers and First Nations partners.

Liaise, consult, coordinate, and work collaboratively with business groups within DES and coordinate with other government departments (e.g. Qld Police Service) as necessary, to support the implementation of compliance related legislative, policy and operational delivery.

As the Senior Ranger (Compliance) you will:

  • Effectively lead and manage a geographically dispersed team including setting priorities, allocating resources, monitoring outcomes, developing local strategies, procedures and practices.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders including neighbouring landholders, other government departments, industry groups, commercial operators, recreational user groups, and traditional owners.
  • Provide information, advice, and education to the public, industry, and other key stakeholders to promote the conservation of protected areas and use of national parks, forests and marine parks.
  • Plan and manage emergency response, critical incidents, compliance andvenforcement operations and ensure all staff are appropriately trained in their application.
  • Plan recovery of areas after natural disaster events, manage relevant agency investigations, resource allocation and emerging issues.
  • Deliver and report on annual work schedules and budgets for recreational and infrastructure development (including fire management, wildlife management, capital works, strategic asset maintenance and pest management programs).
  • Plan, develop and oversee infrastructure development and maintenance projects.
  • Participate in agency planning and management processes and provide technical research and input into programs and projects.
  • Prepare complex correspondence including ministerial documents and briefings for decision by senior officers.
  • Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.
