About the role

If you are interested in joining the team responsible for building the future of the gateway to Australia, then you may be interested in working as our Lead Development Manager, Commercial. This role is responsible for leading Commercial projects through the project life cycle with a focus on early project phases. In partnership with the Head of Commercial Strategy, Development and Programs and Group Executive Commercial, this role will prioritise the development of commercial opportunities that maximise and unlock value. The role will partner with Leaders, Sponsors and stakeholders across the Commercial Team and wider SYD business to ensure the delivery of Commercial Development initiatives.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to

  • Develop a highly collaborative and results focused team that are motivated to outperform
  • Lead your stakeholders and direct reports to identify, create and deliver of range of value maximising projects
  • Work with other Development leaders across the broader business to share/leverage learnings, systems, processes and opportunities
  • Preparation and ongoing management of business cases and obtaining internal approvals
  • Preparation of funding requirements to progress opportunities
  • Identification of opportunities, risks and barriers to creation and delivery of opportunities
  • Develop strategies to maximise returns and minimise risk
  • Project cost planning, supervision & management of budgets, claims & payments
  • Prepare and report to internal and external parties
  • Manage stakeholder approval processes
  • Identification of problems and opportunities in order to define project requirements
  • Coordination of stakeholder outputs into a project brief and set of requirements

About you

The evolution of the development function at SYD is shifting towards a more front-end focus. As a seasoned professional, you'll thrive in leading a team, coordinating diverse workstreams, crafting compelling papers, and expertly navigating projects through the approval process.

We are seeking a driven individual with a collaborative spirit and a knack for achieving results through teamwork. You'll bring curiosity to the table, challenging the status quo with a creative, pragmatic, and sustainable approach to delivering outcomes. With a background in Property Economics, Engineering, or a related field, alongside project management qualifications, you'll possess essential financial modelling and commercial assessment skills, coupled with demonstrated experience in commercial development projects. Your expertise will encompass design management, master planning, business case writing, and obtaining senior executive approvals, complemented by proficiency in feasibility and spreadsheet modelling, as well as authority and stakeholder management. You'll excel in preparing and managing major tenders, overseeing capex and budgets, and prioritizing tasks effectively to meet deadlines and objectives.

We require a candidate with excellent stakeholder management skills and a sharp commercial acumen, coupled with unwavering accuracy and attention to detail. Your adeptness in managing people and teams, along with strong organisational and prioritisation skills, will enable you to navigate multiple tasks seamlessly. Your exceptional written and verbal communication skills will facilitate effective collaboration and proactive management.
