About the role:

Reporting to the Regional Operations Leader, this role is responsible for coordinating train crew and yard operations to ensure productive and cost-effective deployment of resources to ensure a high level of customer service is established and maintained.

You will:

As a valued member of the Aurizon Mackay Depot, you will oversee the daily movements of rollingstock, ensuring all planned activities are executed on time as well as managing day of operations changes to meet all planned train service and maintenance activity timeframes. You will also provide comprehensive and meaningful information, analysis and reporting that assists the enterprise in achieving its strategic, financial, operational and commercial objectives. You will also be required to:

  • Direct and manage the allocation, utilisation, and deployment of production resources to ensure the disciplined execution of the yard plan.
  • Develop, implement, and manage processes, systems and procedures that will eliminate above rail factors within the cycle which impact on supply chain performance and the attainment of the daily schedule.
  • Analyse and capture a range of relevant data and information and provide insightful trends that will drive commercial, financial and operational outcomes with customers.
  • Coordinate the development of relevant reports, plans and forecasting, where required.
  • Develop, manage, update and maintain relevant models, processes, frameworks or tools to enable comprehensive analysis and monitoring to be undertaken.
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations to leverage financial, commercial or operational improvements and outcomes.
  • Drive projects, activities and initiatives by providing expert advice to support enterprise planning and decision making
  • Develop and maintain the knowledge, skills and attributes of self and the team and ensure the team has clear, current, and measurable goals and objectives aligned to the plan and business targets.
  • Provide advice, coaching and support to direct operational employees that assists in achieving performance objectives, promote high performance teams and support continuous improvement activities.
  • Ensure that all business activities and employees within the position's area of control comply with all legislative/statutory obligations, company policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Manage light vehicle fleet IE. Servicing / maintenance & general repairs.

About you:

  • Able to demonstrate previous time management, planning and organisation skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Experience in compiling meaningful reports and presentations suitable for a variety of audiences.
  • High level of negotiation, consultation and relationship management skills including success in executing a variety of strategies to influencing key stakeholders.
  • High level of skill in identifying, summarising and presenting complex issues to a range of internal and/or external stakeholders.
  • Well-rounded verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Able to easily build relationships working within and promoting collaboration within a team and cross functionally.

Specific skills:

  • Shunt Qualified or previous Yard Operations Experience.
  • Certificate IV/Diploma Frontline Management or equivalent (Preferred).
  • Available to work a shift work roster 24/7.
  • Previous line leadership experience in large scale logistics or heavy industrial organisation (Preferred).
  • Substantial level of analytical, conceptual, interpretation and problem-solving skills that deliver commercial value.
  • Demonstrated skills to effectively lead teams in a day of operations environment.
  • High level of communication skills in providing clear and succinct verbal and written information.
  • Demonstrated ability in the use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability in the use of RICS (Preferred)
