How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…

The Finance, Rates and Investments Branch provides financial leadership and stewardship for Council. It is an enabling function that assists the organisation deliver on its vision to become a leading organisation for a leading city.

The Corporate Finance Manager manages a complex provision of the Council's long-term plans and strategic activities, including leading the provision of the Council's 10 Year Financial Plan and its subsequent refresh, corporate finance and funding activities, corporate finance framework and strategy, investment management, and financial risk management.

The position ensures that Council maximises its return from investment and strategic income portfolio (including beneficial enterprises) and operates within a prudent, sustainable long-term financial parameters.

  • Inter-personal, negotiation and persuasion skills with the ability to use discretion and judgement.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, manage and maintain business plans and associated budgetary and financial management requirements
  • Proven experience effectively managing issues within a highly political and complex environment

What you will bring…( Selection Criteria)

All CoM employees will demonstrate an ability to articulate and demonstrate City of Melbourne Values - accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.

In addition the position will require

  • Proven ability to lead, develop and motivate a team to deliver business outcomes
  • Proven ability in corporate finance, investment, and commercial finance
  • Tertiary qualification in a related discipline such as Accounting, Commerce, Economics or Finance;
  • Significant experience in Corporate Finance, Commercial Finance, Investment Management, Investment Banking, Investment Valuations, Financial Modelling, Transaction Advisory, or similar
  • Proven financial modelling expertise including the ability to develop and provide framework of best practice 3-way financial models, DCF financial models that consider the appropriate NPV, ROI, and payback period and models for capital management decisions
  • Expert understanding of the capital market
  • Excellent commercial acumen
