The purpose of this role is to assist with the preparation and strategic management of work injury damages (WID) claims, manage litigation, and other legally based claims, undertake legal project work and support a structured review of a portfolio of claims that drive performance outcomes and support the technical capability uplift of the business.

The role reports to the Legal Manager. Working as part of a Claims Business Unit this role will be responsible for ensuring EML performance targets and organisational objectives are met while providing a high level of service delivery to our stakeholders.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide legal advice on legislative, regulatory, legal, policy and guidelines requirements affecting workers' compensation claims and employer premium to enable sound, evidence-based and legally accurate decision making.
  • Managing, assisting, and reviewing legal advice including common law damages claims and statutory workers' compensation benefits.
  • Keeping up to date with case law and precedents affecting claims, premium and the scheme.
  • Provide assistance with advice and/or drafting of legal notices and correspondence.
  • Participate in the strategic portfolio review of claims.
  • Have oversight and support legal panel referrals ensuring high level of legal advice.

ABOUT YOU
  • Preferably 3 years PQE, including legal practice in a Workers Compensation team managing Workers Compensation Commission litigation, work injury damages matter and advising in Workers Compensation claims
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar legal role working within in a fast-paced business environment
  • Current unrestricted NSW practice certificate highly regarded.
  • Strong drafting experience, including notices and submissions
  • Strong people and stakeholder management skills and experience
