Description:

The Australian Bureau of Statistics is looking to recruit a Parliamentary Officer. This is a permanent position at the APS 5 classification level, based in our office in Belconnen. The successful applicant would be expected to work full-time hours, but flexible working arrangements, including a hybrid model of working from home and the office, applies.

The key duties of the position include
As a Parliamentary Officer the successful applicant will perform a critical role in providing high quality customer service to support the Executive, Minister's Office and ABS business areas. Parliamentary Officers in the ABS are responsible for the management of parliamentary and Cabinet workflows, including quality checking and coordination of ministerial briefs, correspondence, Cabinet submissions and other parliamentary documents.

Your responsibilities may include the following:
  • Coordination: this includes handling ministerial requests, managing ministerial correspondence and briefs, ministerial circulars, senate estimates briefs and distributing Cabinet documents.
  • Advisory and support: providing advice and support for senate estimates appearances, responding to ministerials and questions on notice and assisting with Cabinet processes.
  • Document management: responsible for creating Parliamentary Document Records in the Parliamentary Document Management System (PDMS) and managing the Parliamentary inbox.
  • User support: providing user support for PDMS, Fortress system (PROTECTED environment) and CabNet+.
  • Hansard review: following each parliamentary sitting day identify key topics in Hansard relating to the ABS and provide a summary.
  • Communication and liaison: working with internal and external stakeholders to respond to enquiries, provide updates and disseminate important information.

To be suitable, you should have some or of the following skills, qualities and experience:
  • demonstrated ability to contribute to a high performing team
  • strong stakeholder management skills and an ability to confidently present messages in a clear, concise and articulate manner
  • strong organisational and time management skills, including the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines and achieve results
  • strong written communication skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • experience in ministerial and parliamentary processes desirable.
