Description:

An exciting opportunity exists to join our Workshop as a Mechanic at our Tumut Depot. The position is for a suitably qualified Heavy Vehicle/ Truck Mechanic

Primary Purpose

Contribute to the operational needs of the council by applying trade mechanic skills to a broad range of Council and private works vehicles, plant and equipment.

Key components of this position will include:

  • Deliver plant and equipment maintenance, servicing and repair services to meet operational needs.
  • Provide on the job training to apprentices to support the development of appropriate knowledge and skills.
  • Promote information sharing and knowledge transfer to drive evidence-based decision-making, enhance capability and optimise capacity.

Do you have the following skills and experience?

Essential Criteria

  • Automotive Trade Certificate (Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or in the process of completing 3rd year of training)
  • Experience in the maintenance, servicing and repair of heavy, light vehicles and plant and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a high standard of customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose mechanical problems and efficiently resolve issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
  • Class C drivers' licence.
  • Class MR drivers' licence

Desirable Criteria

  • Class HR drivers' licence
  • Contemporary experience in the maintenance, servicing and repair of light vehicles.
  • Post trade qualification (e.g. hydraulics, welding, auto electrics).
  • RMS Vehicle Inspector Ticket/s. (Pink slips)
  • Demonstrated ability to utilise diagnostic equipment and internet resources.
  • Obtaining a forklift licence within 6 months of employment.

Council does have flexible work arrangements and whereby there is a 9-day fortnight and or compressed hours working for 4 days a week.
