The role:

This is a full-time permanent role as Community Development Coordinator. This exciting level 5 position provides an excellent opportunity for someone who has skills and knowledge of community development and facility management.

Based at Salisbury East Neighbourhood Centre three days a week, Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays and Pooraka Farm Community Centre Wednesdays and Thursdays. Central to this role is developing and building strong connections within the community, and developing collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders that deliver social impact to the community of Salisbury. This position within the Neighbourhood Development team will also play an important role in the delivery of strategic initiatives aligned with Council’s community development agendas particularly around wellbeing and neighbourhood development.

Duties:

  • Maximise the use of Council’s neighbourhood facilities as centres for building local community capacity and collaborating with community partners by overseeing the day-to-day operations
  • Build connections and collaborative partnerships with a range of stakeholders that reflect local identity, create social value and leverage council assets
  • Alongside the Team Leader, develop and deliver of a range of strategic initiatives aligned with Council’s community development agendas particularly around wellbeing and neighbourhood development

Specialist Skills & experience:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in community development, social sciences or related and/or demonstrated experience in lieu of formal qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in working within a community development framework including experience in building partnerships that deliver community outcomes based on the community’s strengths and needs
  • The ability and enthusiasm for generating new ways of working collaboratively to build relationships and to develop and deliver initiatives alongside community
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate work and resources across a range of projects and areas of expertise
  • Proven experience in project management in a community-based setting including the ability to write, analyse, set priorities, plan and organise work, use initiative and manage projects
  • Proven ability to make independent decisions, having regard to policy guidelines, organisational practices and political context
  • Ability to lead, manage and develop teams in order to manage work and resources across a range of projects and in a manner that supports professional development
  • Experience in developing, monitoring and reporting against performance indicators and targets
  • Proven analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills with an ability to explore new and innovative ways to do business using creative solutions
