The Executive Officer, Research Ethics is a senior member of the Research Office team, working under the direction of the Director of Research and the Associate Director, Research Operations to manage the Research Ethics Office and provide high level executive support to the Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC), the HREC Executive Committee and the Scientific Review Committee within the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network.
The SCHN HREC Executive Officer (EO) works closely with and supports the HREC Chair in ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of the SCHN HREC review and approval process; promoting the highest possible ethical standards in the conduct of research within the Network; providing advice, information and training to researchers on human research ethics policies and regulatory frameworks; supporting HREC Committee members in relation to good governance and meeting operation; implementing and maintaining relevant IT systems and processes as mandated by NSW

Health and relevant regulatory authorities; preparing and maintaining relevant information relating to ethics and safety reporting; establishing and maintaining Policy and Procedure Development to support compliance with highest ethical standards, NSW Health Policy Directives and Guidelines, State and Federal Regulations/Legislation in relation to research involving human participants.


Tertiary qualifications in a health, medical or business related field and/or substantial experience providing executive level support in a highly regulated environment.
Sound understanding of the legislation, codes and guidelines relevant to clinical and research ethics, and, in particular, the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research, relevant privacy acts and guidelines, the Human Tissue Act and the Therapeutic Goods Act as it relates to the use of medications in human research.
Executive level communication and interpersonal skills, including exceptional negotiation and consultative skills, and the capacity to manage sensitive issues with a commitment to confidentiality.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including senior management, and to work autonomously and manage a team to achieve positive business outcome measures.
Demonstrated understanding of a broad range of research methodologies, in particular, health research and clinical trials.
Demonstrated capacity in using a wide variety of software applications and web based programs.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
