Reporting to the Director, Digital Practice and working as part of the National Court Support & Improvement Team, Digital Practice Officers (DPOs) are responsible for providing support across the Federal Court, and Federal Circuit and Family Court.

DPOs are focused on ensuring the judiciary, associates, practitioners and other Court users are well- trained and well-supported through the ongoing adoption of digital practices, and improving the capabilities and knowledge of the Courts' internal and external stakeholders.

DPOs are responsible for providing high quality, responsive and user-focused services in their role as the focal point for the judiciary and all others engaging in digital practice. DPO's promote the use of technology to facilitate litigation.

DPOs are also responsible for seeking out opportunities for improving practice and procedure, leveraging off technology to drive efficiencies and engagement with digital practices, and to support the Courts' transition to a more digitised and/or efficient way of working.

DPOs will be responsible for hosting workshops with key stakeholders to understand the current state of processes through journey mapping and personas. DPOs will format this information in an easily digestible way to help inform solutions for an improve further state.

Additionally, DPOs will need to understand internal and external stakeholder needs, pain-points and opportunities through discovery methods. Contributing to and supporting project delivery and process implementation, solving complex design problems at the court.

Strategically, this role will help drive end user adoption & engagement of digital practices, ensuring the Courts' internal and external users are advocated for and supported.

The key duties of the position include
  1. Assisting chambers and courtroom support staff with the practical arrangements of digital litigation (electronic hearings, video-conferencing equipment, live streaming and digital hearings/eTrials) such as conducting test calls, liaising with third party providers and proactively monitoring and maintaining records of digital practice issues and opportunities.
  2. Provide prompt and professional support, advice and training on digital practices to the judiciary, registrars, staff, the legal profession and other Court users, including the use of hardware and software.
  3. Coordinate and conduct local training sessions, including to the judiciary and for on-boarding new associates/court staff, and sharing knowledge and expertise to encourage skill development in relation to digital practices.
  4. Promote and develop digital practices in your location and provide a channel for the judiciary, staff, the legal profession and other Court users to raise improvements.
  5. Be proficient in the use of new and future Court business applications, including Webex, MS Teams, MS OneNote, MS OneDrive, iPads.
  6. Execute discovery and produce visual aids (journey maps, personas, swimlane diagrams and more) to help understand current processes, identify areas with opportunity and present findings in an easily digestible way.
  7. Validate and test proposed solutions, while raising user awareness and engagement based on best practice and industry standards.
  8. Use Human Centred Design (HCD) methodologies for the design and delivery of solutions, services, and process improvements.
  9. Advocate and assist in the seamless implementation of change including the preparation and development of user guides for existing and new digital practices, and providing training on Court hardware / software.
