About CatholicCare NT and the Program
CatholicCare NT is a Catholic social service agency established in the Diocese of Darwin. We provide services throughout the NT, including service centres in Darwin, Palmerston, Malak, Tiwi Islands, Daly River, Wadeye, Jabiru, Maningrida, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, Santa Teresa, Titjikala, Finke and APY lands.
The aim of the National Aged Care Advocacy Program (NACAP) is to provide free, independent and confidential advocacy and support to consumers or potential consumers of Australian Government subsidised Aged Care services (Residential and Home Care), their representatives and their families in Central Australia.
The goals of NACAP are:
- aged care recipients understand their rights and responsibilities and actively participate in decision making which affects them
- all aged care recipients’ problems and complaints are satisfactorily resolved
- delivering information and education on the rights of people receiving aged care services to aged care service providers, to improve and maintain the quality of services provided to the recipients of residential and in-home care meeting all accreditation requirements.
- delivering education to consumers and addressing all issues pertaining to Elder Abuse.
About the role
The Aged Care Advocacy Community Engagement Officer is responsible for engaging with participants, stakeholders, community and other service providers with the particular focus on providing information sessions, education and training about Aged Care Advocacy. This position has a particular focus on participate and organize community events, information session and educational sessions representing CatholicCare NT.
What we are looking for
- Relevant qualification in Certificate III in Aged Care Work or similar including Certificate III in Community Services, or experience in aged care services with a willingness to work toward Certificate III in Aged Care Work.
- Strong interpersonal and well-developed communication skills demonstrating cultural competency in communicating with people across a range of diverse cultural groups and other special needs groups both written and oral, active listening and conflict resolution skills.
- Intermediate computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook, databases, and the ability to use other office equipment including photocopiers and scanners.
- Demonstrated time management skills, the ability to prioritise tasks, write quality reports, client case notes, and input data accurately.
- Willingness and capacity to work according to the values and mission of CatholicCare NT, including the ability to work as part of a team and contribute to the development of the Aged Care Advocacy program.
