2 x Full-Time, permanent positions
Melbourne CBD or Geelong, or other location by negotiation, with regular work and travel requirements throughout Victoria

Purpose
Working within the Psychological Health and Safety Specialist team the purpose of the role is to:

Provide expertise and advice in aspects of psychological health and safety, to achieve reduction in the incidence and severity of work-related injury and disease.
Improve WorkSafe Victoria’s capability to develop, implement and evaluate psychological health and safety initiatives.

Key accountabilities

Provide specialist knowledge, expertise, and advice to influence improvement in health and safety of Victorian workplaces related to workplace Psychological Health and Psychosocial risks.
Improve WorkSafe’s capability to develop, implement and evaluate health and safety initiatives. This includes informing the decision making of others, recommendations of business solutions and development of initiatives to reduce risks to psychological health and safety.
Provide expert advice in the identification and management of current and emerging psychosocial hazards and risks, as well as trends, including a current understanding of how this applies in relation to OHS legislation in Victoria.
Actively provide expertise and advice to support complex workplace psychosocial interventions, building organisational capability and the development of strategic programs in relation to psychosocial hazards and risks to psychological health at work.
Write expert reports and represent WorkSafe as an expert witness in court proceedings and tribunal forums as required.
Contribute expertise to the development of legislation, standards, guidance materials, operational policies and procedures in relation to psychological health and safety.
Represent WorkSafe on specialist national, state and industry committees and forums as required, presentations and forums as required, including active participation in relevant communities of practice, stakeholder working groups and industry groups.
Maintain the currency of corporate knowledge in psychological health and safety through participation in professional bodies, industry forums and stakeholder engagement for dissemination of information across WorkSafe as appropriate.
Participate in Incident Response in accordance with policies and procedures.
Any other reasonable and related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of WorkSafe.

Appointments

You may be trained and appointed as an inspector under the OHS and/or other legislation, as required.
You may be required to complete the Diploma of Government within the first two years of appointment, depending on operational policy and requirements.

Skills and experience

Demonstrated extensive experience in psychological health and safety and psychosocial risk management with a proven track record of achieving positive outcomes for workplaces.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, including demonstrated ability to interpret complex technical information and data.
Ability to undertake effective research and analysis and produce accurate reports and advice on emerging psychological health and safety issues.
Ability to develop innovative solutions in a complex environment and work proactively to resolve issues.
Understanding and prior application of project management methodologies, including the preparation of project plans and undertaking project evaluation.
Demonstrated ability to liaise in a professional manner with a range of internal and external clients/stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to train, develop and motivate employees in a team environment.
Highly developed relationship building, influencing negotiating and networking skills.
Highly developed communication and presentation skills (written and oral), including the ability to facilitate diverse groups, provide advice and information and interpret policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
Accredited post-graduate qualification in Psychology (such as Masters or Doctorate degree, or equivalent industry experience).
Eligibility for membership of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
