The Role and our Branch

The System Response and Transformation Division (SRT) drives high performance and assurance at a system level by providing senior leaders with visibility and assurance of system performance and improvement initiatives. This is achieved by ensuring strategic responses and projects are delivered within expectations; collecting and analysing data and reporting on performance; and overseeing the development of transformation opportunities in line with the Department’s strategic intent.

We encourage all applicants with diverse professional experiences to apply.

The Department of Education’s core purpose is to provide every student with a pathway to a successful future. Student health, wellbeing, engagement and achievement are interrelated and core to each student’s success. Quality teaching strengthens student performance and enhances their ability to achieve their goals. This is best achieved when the system, schools, students, families, communities and other agencies work in partnership.

The partnership approach is underpinned by school autonomy within a connected and unified public school system – schools know their students, families and communities best and are best placed to effect positive outcomes through local place-based decision-making.

Local planning in schools is best supported by a public school system where quality decisions are made at the highest level. This includes directing resources to where they are most needed and designing new initiatives that make a difference to schools and young people. Quality information, accountability and effective project and program management are core to achieving this – building and assuring these practices across the Department is the remit of the SRT division.

The allocation of staff to projects and initiatives within the division is flexible with the right people being drawn upon at the right time from across the Division to support delivery of our collective business priorities based on the necessary skills and expertise.

The Division’s Business Intelligence team has responsibility for the development and delivery of the Department’s data strategy and the associated technology, policies and processes to enable its effective implementation. The Manager will work with the Director to consult and negotiate with stakeholders across the Department to develop a shared vision, an aspirational but achievable implementation plan and to ultimately build consistent and safe practice across the Department as a connected whole, while maintaining the ability for individual business units to deliver on their remit. The successful applicant will ideally have extensive current knowledge and experience in data science through leading business intelligence, data management and data visualisation at an enterprise level, including and with modern data tools; the ability to analyse the current and future organisational needs to develop and implement initiatives contributing to the achievement of organisational goals and outcomes; and experience with engaging stakeholders at all levels of the organisation, building strong relationships to influence and negotiate consensus outcomes.

The branch will also continue developing and refining data displays for senior leadership to support understanding and analysis of performance to inform decision making related to the delivery of the Department’s strategic intent and high-profile operations. The team, both at branch and divisional level, operates under an agile methodology and mindset to solve problems and support others to deliver high quality outcomes.

The Department is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and persons from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.
