This vacancy is for a Full Time or Part Time Permanent appointment up to 80 hours per fortnight.

To be successful, you will have...



  • Eligibility for registration in the category of Midwife by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Demonstration of recent evidenced based, family centred midwifery care across the continuum of midwifery practice within an acute care setting.
  • Competence in planning, coordination and decision making in the management of patients, within the relevant practice setting.
  • Ability to function as a team leader and team member in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Demonstrated effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate information sharing between colleagues, women and their families.
  • Demonstrates incorporation of quality and risk management principles within practice

Position Profile:


Provides holistic, woman-centred care for patients within the scope of practice of a Registered Midwife. Assists in planning and facilitating the unit midwifery activities in collaboration with Clinical Midwives and other members of the team. Acts as a clinical resource for other Registered Nurses, Graduate Midwives/Nurses, Nursing Assistants and Student Midwives/Nurses.

WACHS supports flexible working practices and consideration will be given to flexible work/roster options, where operationally appropriate.

The Country Nursing & Midwifery incentive program is available to new and existing nurses and midwives - across a broad range of patient-facing roles - on fixed term or permanent contracts at 76 select locations. Eligible nurses and midwives can receive between $5,000 and $17,000 in support over 12 months (WA Country Health Service - Country Nursing and Midwifery Incentive Program).


Area Profile


WACHS Kimberley is the most northern health region of WACHS. The Kimberley region has approximately 200 Aboriginal communities, over 34 different Aboriginal language groups and 45 percent of the population are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. WACHS Kimberley consists of six hospitals, an inpatient mental health unit, three Community Directorates and a Corporate Office. WACHS Kimberley provides hospital, community health, public health, remote area health, community aged care, and mental health services across the region through a dedicated team of medical, nursing, Aboriginal health, allied health, and support staff.
