Collie Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a Teacher – Generalist to join our high quality regional school.

Teachers and School Administrators employed at Collie Senior High School in 2024 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $5,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.

The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.

In the first instance, only applicants with teaching qualifications will be considered. Where there are no suitable applicants with teaching qualifications, applicants without teaching qualifications may be considered. In this circumstance, a fixed term appointment as an untrained teacher for the 2024 school year will be offered.

About the role

Collie SHS is seeking a Secondary teacher to join a collaborative team of teachers; who is relationship focussed and has a flexible and inclusive approach to learning. The successful applicant will ideally display the ability to provide purposeful and relevant learning experiences that cater for different student learning needs as outlined in the Australian Curriculum, employing research based high impact teaching strategies. The successful applicant will have the an ability to embed positive student behaviour strategies in their instructional practice.

The position will predominantly have a Lower School Literacy focus for an initial 3-month contract. The position has been created to accommodate for staff taking their Long Service Leave and may be extended for the right applicant and the needs of the school. The role includes a mix of Lower school English and HASS classes along with supporting with internal relief commencing Week 8 of Term 2.

The location and community

Collie is a town in the Southwest region of Western Australia, 213 kilometres (south of the state capital, Perth, and 59 kilometres inland from the regional city and port of Bunbury. It is near the junction of the Collie and Harris Rivers, in the middle of dense jarrah forest and the only coalfields of Western Australia.

Tourist attractions at Collie include the Steam Locomotive Museum, Collie Art Gallery, Minninup Pool and Wellington Dam. Parks include Soldier's Memorial Park and natural features include the Collie River. Stockton Lake, Lake Kepwari, Harris River Dam and Wellington Dam are man-made reservoirs and lakes available for leisure and recreation.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to :

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
