Bunbury Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Program Coordinator of Health & Physical Education (PC - HPE) to join their high performing leadership team.


The PC - HPE provides high quality leadership to staff within the Physical Education learning area. As the successful applicant you should be an exemplary classroom practitioner who can lead the implementation of excellence in teaching practice within the Health & Physical Education Learning Area. The ability to authentically evaluate the effectiveness of teaching practice and team performance, then improve staff capacity is an important aspect of the role.


The successful applicant will have high standards of professionalism and embrace opportunities for collaboration and partnerships within and beyond the school community. They should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective interaction with students, colleagues, and parents. The proven ability to develop a highly cohesive team environment that actively creates a positive school sporting culture is highly regarded.


As the PC - HPE, you will be innovative and enthusiastic in the promotion of Health and Physical Education within the school. This includes oversight of the Bunbury Elite Sports Training (BEST) Program, a high-profile specialist program within the community. A deep knowledge of Year 7 to 12 curriculum aspects including compliance, assessment, and reporting practices is also required.


The successful applicant should possess the skills to translate the priorities of the school’s Business Plan and Strategic Directions into a learning area improvement plan that provides clear direction for their staff. Another important aspect of the position will be the ability to understand the wider school context and constructively work with other PC’s and the executive team to achieve the schools broader objectives. The PC - HPE should have a high level of data gathering and analysis skills to monitor the individual and collective progress of students, and to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching practice and team performance.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.


To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:



  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and Training Requirements


Employees will be required to:



  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
