Who are we looking for?


The successful applicant will be responsible for fostering a safe, purposeful, and inclusive learning environment and have the capacity to develop collaborative and respectful relationships with and between staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders. The Principal will be innovative and creative in the establishment of systems and structures to foster academic achievement and improvements in social and emotional developments for students, as well as engaging a diverse school community in the educational programs of the school.


The Principal is responsible for leading, managing, and monitoring the school improvement process through a current and critical understanding of the learning process and its implications for enhancing high quality teaching and learning in every classroom in the school. They will possess a commitment to continuous school improvement and development of the instructional program, particularly the pedagogy of beginning teachers, and building networks with other agencies, other schools, and services in the community to benefit school programs.


The Principal supports the Department’s objectives for the public education and training of students in Western Australia. The role of the Principal is to lead and manage the planning, delivery, evaluation, and improvement of the education of all students in a community through the deployment of resources provided by the Department of Education and the school community.

Selection Process


This vacancy is part of the new Principal Selection and Placement (PSP) process and utilises a multi-stage selection process assessing six Domains of Practice and six Personal Leadership Attributes. This selection process has been designed to allow applicants to demonstrate their experience and skills in a rigorous yet accessible format.   • The school name, your position title, and a brief description of the school context (150 words)
  • A description of the achievement that demonstrates your effectiveness against the Domains of Practice (250 words)
  • An outline of why you chose to include the achievement (150 words)

Subsequent Appointments


This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies for up to 12 months after the recruitment decision has been endorsed. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. Similar vacancies may include permanent, fixed term and acting opportunities on a full-time or part-time basis.


The Department applies a 4 day breach period to this selection process.
