Ngwala Willumbong (Pitjantjatjara for “Dry Place”) Aboriginal Corporation Ltd is an Aboriginal-controlled organisation (ACCO) that is devoted to providing high quality, specialised alcohol and drug rehabilitation and support services to meet the needs of Aboriginal people and their families.

Job Summary:

The purpose of the Innovative Health Services for Homeless Youth (IHSHY) program is to identify, assess, respond and implement strategies to address health & homelessness issues that affect Aboriginal young people within the Southern Metropolitan Region. The IHSHY program also aims to address the over representation of Aboriginal young people whom are in contact, or are at risk of homelessness.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of the complex health needs of young Aboriginal people; particularly those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
  • A strong desire to work in the field of youth health / mental health and an ability to provide practice that is sensitive to the needs of diverse young people.
  • Experienced in completing comprehensive health / social assessments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with clients
  • Knowledge of community resources and support services
  • Experience in crisis intervention and case management
  • Willingness and ability to work within and contribute to the vision, purpose and core values of the organisation.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify Aboriginal young people at risk of entering homelessness and develop health programs and support responses.
  • Implement culturally relevant case management support to assist at risk young Aboriginal people in the Southern Metropolitan and Bayside Peninsula Region.
  • Support Aboriginal young people with health and/or homelessness issues.
  • Provide information and support to Aboriginal young people to protect and promote their Aboriginal cultural and spiritual development by maintaining and building their connections to their Aboriginal family and community.
  • Linking and referring Aboriginal young people to the services they need.
  • Establish and maintain cohesive and effective working relationships with IHSHY worker, management and other organisations.
  • In consultation with regional Aboriginal communities, identify issues contributing to at risk behaviours of Aboriginal young people.
  • Liaise with regional Koori support services and other youth services
  • Ensure that client confidentiality is maintained in compliance with Ngwala’s policies and relevant legislation.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to Ngwala team meetings and network meetings as required.
  • Comply with Ngwala’s administrative and personnel requirements.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications; Certificate IV Community Services, Social Work and/or Youth Services
  • Driver’s License
  • Satisfactory Police Check and Working with Children Check
  • Minimum 2 COVID19 Vaccination status
