Our National Immigration Support Service (NISS) offers comprehensive assistance to individuals seeking asylum and refugees residing within the Australian community.

Navigating the journey toward stability in Australia, as an asylum seeker or refugee, is fraught with challenges. About you

Are you a seasoned leader ready to make a significant impact in social services and refugee support? Our NISS program is the place for you. We are seeking an exceptional Operational Lead to lead our operations nationwide.

Reporting directly to the National Director, you'll lead our dedicated teams across Australia, driving the delivery of client services with unwavering commitment. You'll uphold our organisational values, ensuring adherence to contractual and legislative requirements while striving for financial success.

We're seeking candidates with a strong background in social services, coupled with senior leadership experience. A comprehensive understanding of refugee and asylum seeker legislation and policy is essential for success in this role.

About the role

This role assumes overall operational responsibility for the NISS program. This includes overseeing operations in each State and Territory, managing operational budgets, ensuring contractual compliance, and maintaining positive external relationships and reputation.

Their primary duty involves nurturing strong relationships with relevant stakeholders to ensure successful service delivery, fostering an environment focused on achieving client outcomes, adhering to contractual and legislative requirements, and achieving financial success.

This permanent, full-time position can be based in Sunshine or Dandenong (VIC) or Parramatta (NSW). This role provides flexibility, allowing for both office and home-based work arrangements, facilitating a harmonious work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in developing and implementing a culture of service excellence, working to embed the standards, behaviours, and strategies needed to bring about lasting improvements and efficiencies across the organisation.
  • Monitor, coach, support, motivate, and develop team members to enable them to deliver to the best of their ability.
  • Supporting the Program Implementation and Support Lead, in managing the subcontractor relationship and meeting their contractual requirements.
  • Model and implement a culture of continuous improvement throughout the program and service areas, focusing on systems and process that will improve the customer experience.
  • Communicate operational objectives, plans and operational updates as per the business plan and as required by the Director NISS.
  • Develop and implement business development and growth strategies within local regions and in accordance with the LWB Strategic Plan and business plans.
  • Hold accountability for the operational financial performance of the NISS Program.
  • Ensure compliance with operational budgets, including program growth and business development activities.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary level qualifications in Human Services / business, management, or relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar Leadership level role within the community services sector.
  • Proven experience in building and managing relationships with key stakeholders from government agencies, accrediting bodies, and NGOs.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing competing priorities and delivering high quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community services policy and practice in Australia.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislative and regulatory environment for areas of business responsibility.
  • Ability to drive organisation-wide initiatives and strong organisational, planning and prioritising ability.
  • Ability to implement national business development and growth strategies.
  • The ability to influence and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders including peers, employees, external organisations, funding bodies and government agencies and the media.
  • Excellent written communication skills for the creation of reports, correspondence and other material.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and presentation ability.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check.
