About the Role:

The Communications Specialist contributes to and executes the communications strategy. This role develops and produces compelling written and visual content to achieve communication plan objectives. Collaborating with communications team colleagues and project teams, the role shapes our written and visual communications to our stakeholder and audience needs and motivations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic communications support and advice to project leaders and other staff as required.
  • Contribute to strategic direction and lead the delivery of departmental objectives.
  • In conjunction with the Marketing team, manage the development of social media strategy.
  • Develop end-to-end communications plans and content for various stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement innovations across the communications function at Melba.
  • Assist team members to coordinate delivery of communication plan outputs across the team and report on impact.
  • Write and produce a range of communications for different audiences, including internal newsletters, website content, blogs, video scripts, letters.
  • Develop written and visual content targeted to our stakeholders and specific audiences identified in communications plans.
  • Manage and lead the development of Melba stories, including production of videos and other materials.
  • Oversee the development of and imbedding of plain English language across Melba.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Significant demonstrated experience in a similar communications role.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with experience writing for a range of audiences and across a variety of mediums. Ability to write according to Plain English and Easy English principles.
  • Experience and expertise in editing and proofreading.
  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects and working collaboratively to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Knowledge/ capability in design packages is desirable.
  • Strong content skills – a great storyteller from interview, through to visuals and screen.
  • Experience in the disability and/or community services sector an advantage.


Requirements:
A current NDIS Worker Screening and Working with Children Check (we can support you through the process of obtaining one or both checks if you don’t already have them).
