The Strategy and Innovation team is responsible for leading the Commission's strategic planning, coordination, and reform agenda. This involves undertaking research and analysis, policy development, and complex internal and external stakeholder management to support the development of strategic advice regarding current, evolving or emerging policy/operational issues.

As a key member of the Strategy and Innovation team, the Senior Project Officer is integral in a range of organisational activities designed to support improvements in safety and quality of healthcare for First Nations people including the development and evolution of the Commission's Reconciliation Action Plan, Cultural Safety Framework and support for relevant advisory bodies. This position provides a unique opportunity to make a difference to health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples nationally and their communities in a supportive organisation.

The Senior Project Officer is also involved in a broad range of organisational strategies, performance monitoring and reporting, and project development activities. This will involve supporting the Director, Strategy and Innovation through the coordination and facilitation of meetings, development of briefings and resources, and assisting with liaison on key strategic projects.

The key duties of the position include
Duties of the Senior Project Officer will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  1. With the Director, lead the planning and conceptualisation of strategies and national guidance to support the Commissions strategic direction.
  2. Review, analyse and summarise published literature, data, policy papers and other published material to inform policy and program direction.
  3. Prepare high-quality written reports, briefs, and other documents for a range of audiences on complex healthcare issues, including issues specifically related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healthcare.
  4. Undertake project management activities including project planning and documentation, implementation, monitoring and reporting on progress, providing recommendations about managing risk and identifying and resolving problems.
  5. Provide secretariat support to the work of relevant committees and expert groups managed by the program.
  6. Liaise and consult with experts and stakeholders including development of consultation strategies and coordination of formal consultation processes to achieve the objectives of the Commission.
  7. Participate in, and present to, committee meetings, forums and workshops on relevant topics.
  8. Maintain knowledge of relevant legislative and reporting requirements, Australian and International standards, quality assurance procedures and best practice models.
  9. Prepare advice on safety and quality issues across a broad range of activities, including those relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
  10. Other duties as required and directed.
