Appointment Pool

Belridge Secondary Education Support Centre (ESC) is seeking to establish a pool for Special Needs Education Assistants for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.

Belridge Secondary ESC caters for secondary aged students from Years 7 to 12 that have a recognised Disability. As a school we value staff who are committed to making a difference. As an Education Assistant at this Centre, you will, under limited supervision and guidance, perform tasks that require discretion, judgement, and initiative to assist students in achieving clearly defined outcomes determined in conjunction with the teacher. You should be able to apply techniques, skills and knowledge of relevant principles and practices acquired through previous experience, on the job learning and/or through relevant qualifications. You will ideally work under general supervision or autonomously and are expected to contribute advice and expertise as part of a team. You should be open to new ideas and strategies. It would be desirable if suitable applicants can display competent levels of literacy and numeracy and excellent interpersonal skills to be able to provide support to students, teachers, and other colleagues.

Belridge Secondary ESC focuses on achieving the best outcome for each student with Individual Education Planning linked to the Australian Curriculum as well as ASDAN and Accredited Senior School courses and programs. The goal for all students is successful independent living and transition from school to work or alternative pathways beyond school. Students are provided with programs in an educationally enhancing environment. Students in Years 7-10 participate in a range of educational programs to enhance their social, emotional, and academic growth. Years 11-12 continue this journey, and a proportion of this learning takes place in the local and wider community. Students may participate in community access and work experience programs with enterprise and vocational education being the lynchpin that drives our curriculum to best prepare these students for life beyond school. Education Assistants will be expected to work with students in the classroom, the community, and the workplace.

Our school caters for students with a diverse range of disabilities and support needs and our staff are expected to work across all Year Levels, Programs and with all students. Suitable applicants must be committed to enhancing learning opportunities for all students, maintain confidentiality at all times and treat staff and students with respect. Staff are encouraged to attend relevant, ongoing professional development sessions and training and to take the initiative in seeking out further knowledge and skills to enhance their contribution to the work of the Centre that will most benefit our students.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
