Your new company

I am looking for a Senior Management Accountant to join a large public sector organisation for a 6-month placement.


Your new role

You will be responsible for the coordination of reporting, presentation and analysis of cost drivers, forecasts and budgets to respective business units. Further responsibilities include report design, analysis of key performance indicators, financial modelling, financial presentations and management reporting through the Finance Business Partner.
You will be responsible for the following
  • Preparation of month-end procedures and journals, including ad-hoc items throughout the month.
  • Preparation of monthly management reports and external reporting requirements.
  • Development of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts ensuring they align with desired commercial outcomes and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and analyse financial performance and financial data. Ensuring financial information and data aligns with internal policy and accounting standards.
  • Make recommendations and implement improvements in processes and procedures.
  • Report to Business Units on monthly financial reports and performance to budget.
  • Engaging with business units to resolve financial queries and anomalies identified through targeted financial analysis.
  • Monitor and advise on financial aspects of the Capital Works and Repairs & Maintenance program.
  • Provide financial advice to various business units to support business initiatives, projects and organisational objectives.
  • Develop and maintain effective collaborative relationships across the business.
  • Build and develop internal processes and procedures with a focus on continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and relevant legislation.

What you'll need to succeed

Ideally, you will have:
  • Broad knowledge of accounting concepts and their practical application, including preparation of financial reports, such as financial statements and management reports.
  • Considerable budget, forecasting and management accounting experience.
  • Experience in providing risk-based financial advice, resolution of complex financial issues and delivering quality outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate, successfully building and maintaining appropriate relationships at all levels, with a proven capacity to effectively manage complex issues and situations in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Superior communication and written skills, enabling effective engagement across all levels including Senior Management.
  • A self-starter who can work autonomously with limited supervision, proactively manage and effectively prioritise workload, perform self-review for quality output and delivery, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Highly developed analytical skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement and decisiveness with problem solving, translating data insights into practical advice and recommendations.
  • Strong business acumen and technical skills with the ability to implement and develop quality policies and procedures.
