INCH Housing Inc. is seeking a Bookkeeper for 14 hours per week to work in our Finance Department at INCH’s Office is located at Mitchelton, 4053.

Salary range $71,128 - $76,272 – pro rata of full time of Social and Community, Home Care and Disabilities Award. Casual Contract position in first instance.

The Bookkeeper is responsible to oversee financial data and compliance by maintaining accurate books on accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and daily financial entries and reconciliations.

INCH Housing Inc. (INCH) is a Community Housing provider operating in Brisbane north. INCH is a not-for-profit Incorporated Association, a registered Charity and an ATO endorsed Deductible Gift Recipient.

INCH provides housing services for people on low incomes and who have multi-complex circumstances. The majority of our clients have experienced homelessness or were at very high risk of homelessness before obtaining a home with INCH.

INCH’s Housing Services are provided in partnership with Queensland Department of Housing, Brisbane City Council and many government and community support organisations.

POSITION CONTEXT

The role plays a vital role in supporting the overall finances and financial compliance of the organisation. as well as working closely with other departments within the organisation.

This position is a member of the Management Team – Board Treasurer, CEO and Accountant, as well as working closely with other departments within the organisation.

The location of INCH’s Office is in Mitchelton, Brisbane.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/OUTCOMES

Operate the accounting package (MYOB), and ensure its accuracy in terms of transactions posted at an account and cost code level and GST codes.

Record financial data on computer MYOB system, and to operate variety of INCH computer programs – Microsoft Word, Excel, Access data base systems, etc.

Processing Association’s accounts payable and payroll as approved by the CEO, and recording payments received.

Preparing for approval by CEO and/or INCH Treasurer and then processing for payment of BAS, PAYG, FBT, Workcover, QLeave within required time frames.

Regular reconciliations of bank accounts, wages, and other monthly INCH accounts with and outside the financial system

To maintain and monitor all financial filing system, ensuring information is up to date and accurate.

Assisting Board members, the CEO, Tenancy and Property Managers, and volunteers with administrative tasks and enquiries relating to finances.

To develop monthly Board reports, Profit & Loss, Budget Analysis, Balance Sheets and monthly Account Transactions, and other reports as requested.

Perform other accounts administrative duties consistent with the position/department where required.

Support and assistance to the Accountant for: –

the development of budgets

the monitoring of performance against budgets by supplying support information.

preparing and posting of month end related journals

preparation of monthly, quarterly, end of year reports

preparing for monthly Board meetings

preparing and engagement in Finance and Audit Sub-Committees

Interim and Annual Audit

Annual General Meeting

Management of archive financial folders and files

SELECTION CRITERIA

The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:

Essential

Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident

Proven experience of 3- 5 years or more in a similar role.

Communication skills appropriate for various audiences with differing degrees of financial knowledge.

Sound skills in MYOB and Excel

Strong grasp of Financial Accounting Processors and having significant exposure to a medium to large organisation

Proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines while remaining calm

under pressure.

An ability to think broadly, take a whole of organisation view and see beyond “just the numbers”

Strong attention to detail.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a productive team member

Willing to learn and be open to tasks at varying levels.

Hold or obtain a Blue card (Working with Children) before commencing

Desirable

Experience in the Not for Profit, and/or Community Housing sector.
