About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic team leading our approach to the provision of quality care to clients of the Geriatric Medicine Department. The St Vincent's Geriatric Service covers a geographical area bounded by the City of Sydney and the localities covered by Woollahra and Waverley Councils, extending from the City and Redfern areas through to Bondi and Vaucluse. The linked services as part of the training experience include the St Vincent's Hospital Geriatric Unit and Medical Admissions Unit, War Memorial and Sacred Heart Rehabilitation units, as well as the St Vincent's Community Health service, Geriatric Flying Squad based at War Memorial, Hospital in the Home and Transitional Aged Care Programs. One advanced Trainee is also seconded on a rotational basis to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital. We have a broad range of educational opportunities.

About you:

The St Vincent's Hospital Geriatric Unit is seeking a motivated and dynamic medical officer to further their education within our organisation. We welcome applications from people who are able to work closely with all members of staff and be able to work co-operatively within a team environment and actively contributes to team activities including pro-actively participates in team meetings and decision making processes.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent's Health Australia

  2. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.

  3. Completion of at least four (4) full years of postgraduate experience and has registration with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)

  4. Demonstrated commitment to training in Geriatric Medicine and previous experience in Aged Care Medicine

  5. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised clinical environment using excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise.

  6. Good time management and organisational skills and advanced computing skills with excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams

  7. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management

  8. Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self-education as well as a willingness to teach and support junior medical staff
