About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated Head Gardener to manage and coordinate the maintenance and development of gardens and other high profile horticultural assets within some of the most prestigious and beautiful parks and open spaces across Melbourne.

As Head Gardener you will lead, develop, and supervise a Horticultural team and complete all required horticultural maintenance tasks and activities. You will thrive in a physical hands-on work environment whilst having creativity and a positive attitude.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead and organize the Horticulture Team to maintain region assets at highest standards, including efficient watering resource management.
  • Collaborate with Mowing teams for superior turf asset maintenance.
  • Assist in planning and executing small-scale landscaping and planting projects.
  • Support Horticulture Supervisor in procurement and supply delivery.
  • Aid in basic reporting and team management.
  • Prioritize asset protection and ensure safe public spaces.
  • Work with HS&E representatives and management for workplace safety.
  • Conduct Job Safety Environment Assessments for tasks as needed.

About you - your ideal skills & experience

  • Horticultural qualification at AQF Level 4 or equivalent, with a current Driver's License.
  • Desirable: Leadership/Supervision certification (AQF Level 3 or 4), Medium Rigid Truck license, Native landscape maintenance experience, and Chemcert training.
  • 5+ years in garden bed maintenance, with strong prioritization and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety protocols, including HS&E requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, effective communication skills, ability to motivate teams, teamwork ethic, flexibility, and high energy level.
