Hourly rate $36.56- $73.12 depending n days and time of day worked + leave entitlement + allowances + salary packaging

About the Opportunity

This opportunity will suit a natural leader or experienced support worker/carer with a strong social conscience and genuine commitment to:

  • Improving the lives of people with a disability
  • Coaching support workers to develop and implement best practice, person-centred active support.
  • Creating/strengthening roles for people with disability in their communities
  • Expanding HomePlace’s network of like-minded organisations, so that together we can expand the experiences and community contributions of the people HomePlace supports.

The primary function of this position is to provide direct support to individuals who have contracted HomePlace as the SIL provider in their home.

Additional responsibilities are:

  • Facilitate connections and relationships that assist in creating social and economic participation for the person being supported
  • Orientation of new team members
  • Mentor and Support team members
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the supports in the person's home, including the implementation of plans such as Manual Handling and Positive Behaviour support and others.
  • Facilitate team meetings and effective communication
  • Provide person-centred active support with participants over a 7-day weekly schedule which will include early mornings, evenings, weekends, sleepovers
  • Emergency Response duties on a scheduled basis. (after-hours contact number)

Participants may seek your support or mentorship in a range of activities that could include:

  • Sports
  • Performing arts including singing, dance
  • Arts and crafts
  • Gardening
  • Volunteering
  • Developing and working in their own micro-enterprise/business
  • Travel experiences
  • Cooking
  • Health and fitness

The role additionally has a portfolio in continuous improvement and/or project management coaching and support for projects across HomePlace.

About You

You are driven and passionate about supporting people to empower them to improve their

well-being, quality of life, and community connections. You have the leadership qualities,

resilience, and enthusiasm to inspire others, and to foster the conviction that every individual

has the right to a secure home and active contribution to the life of their community.

You are an effective manager of your time, proactively planning and distributing your time

based on the needs of participants, the team, and HomePlace. Your positive attitude,

flexibility, collaborative ‘can-do’ approach, and proactive problem-solving skills will enable

you, the participants, and your team to be successful.

To be successful in this role, you will have/be:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in working with people with intellectual or other disability and their families
  • Certificate IV specialising in Disability Studies and/or Human Services and/or substantial experience in this or a similar role.
  • Experience supporting or coaching support staff in community settings
  • Experience in supporting people with complex health care issues
  • Confidence in assisting with behavioural challenges
  • Continuous improvement methodology
  • Experience with project management
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal
  • Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to work using own initiative
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and adopt a flexible approach to working methods and time
  • Ability to enthuse others and be a good team player
  • Proficiency in the use of IT, in particular MS Office
  • Current NDIS Clearance
  • Senior First Aid / Basic Emergency Life Support, and CPR certificate
  • Hold a current drivers licence, have access to a vehicle, and be willing to drive to undertake HomePlace business
  • Covid vaccinations x 3

It would also be great if you had:

  • Experience working for a disability service in a leadership role
  • Experience with MYP
