  • Remuneration: Level 9 $138,171 - $146,613 (depending on experience) + 17% super + leave loading

Why your role matters:

The Project Manager oversees the end-to-end delivery of capital construction projects, encompassing various construction, infrastructure, and interior fit-out works. Strong expertise in refurbishment and building services projects is essential for this role.

The Project Manager plays a lead and strategic role within Estate Management, ensuring that all projects adhere to an approved brief, budget, and schedule, aligning with UNSW and Estate Management (EM) strategic goals and objectives. They are responsible for comprehensive project reporting and managing all stakeholder engagement,

The Project Manager reports to the Portfolio Delivery Manager and has no direct reports.
Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive project briefs to ensure alignment with UNSW strategy and user requirements.
  • Oversee and manage end-to-end project delivery, including feasibility, planning, documentation, tendering, construction, and defect liability phases, while overseeing multiple projects with significant budgets to ensure timely delivery within budget constraints.
  • Implement day-to-day contract management activities to achieve timely delivery of projects.
  • Engage and coordinate diverse consultant teams while effectively managing project funding and reporting.
  • Demonstrate strategic leadership by facilitating consultation and securing stakeholder buy-in throughout all project phases.
  • Provide detailed, accurate, consistent project and financial reports to support the Portfolio Delivery Manager and senior management in achieving organisational objectives.
  • Monitor project risks, promptly identifying and resolving them and effectively communicating agreed actions and outcomes.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of consultants and contractors, driving continuous improvement and innovation in project delivery.

Skills and Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction, Project Management, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience managing projects in complex operational environments. Strong technical skills in contract management, building service and infrastructure-led projects.
  • Preferably, experience in complex building upgrade work related to education, research, and health sectors.
  • Proven advanced project management experience, particularly in delivering multiple projects concurrently with strict time and budget constraints.
  • Proven track record in developing financial plans, budget allocations, and forecasting, particularly within major institutional environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in contract administration, including making concise judgments on contract variations, time claims, contractor performance, and project risk management.
  • Outstanding organisational skills, including defining and managing project timelines, actions, and critical paths to ensure efficient project progress.
  • Excellent consultation, influencing and negotiation skills and proven ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills and proven capacity to exercise initiative and flexibility and to be proactive in the development of robust solutions to problems.
  • Effective leadership capabilities within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated capacity to establish and nurture strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
