About the role

The Clinical Nurse is a registered nurse who is accountable for practice at an advanced level, working collaboratively within the unit and with other members of the health care team including consumers/carers, other health professionals, general practitioners and other agencies (including non-Government agencies).

The Clinical Nurse provides contemporary clinical leadership and care within a specific area supporting the general function of the unit through the application of best practice principles, education, leadership and portfolio management in the application and role modelling of professional nursing practice standards in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia (NMBA).

The Clinical Nurse

  • Practices autonomously;
  • Provides leadership in clinical decision making to give and/or coordinate care;
  • Assumes responsibility for professional leadership for the unit in the absence of the Nurse Grade 7/Team Leader;
  • Applies critical thinking across all the domains of clinical practice.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge in the area of Surgical Nursing delivering expert nursing care in complex situations while providing support and direction to other team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to role model excellent standards of comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care and documentation to facilitate quality patient outcomes, in accordance with National Safety and Quality Health Service and professional standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team, patients, relatives and visitors and maintain a positive workplace culture through well developed consultation, liaison, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrates honesty, integrity and respect for all patients, carers and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships and a positive environment within a multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to the learning and development of others to a high standard.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
