The Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT), the peak body representing the local government sector in the Northern Territory (NT), has been championing the interests of its members for over three decades.

Representing 16 of the 17 local government councils, LGANT advocates and liaises with both the Northern Territory and Australian governments to ensure the concerns of local communities are heard and addressed.

LGANT also provides strategic leadership and expert advice on policy matters, equipping its member councils to navigate complex legislative landscapes and make informed decisions.

In addition, LGANT offers specialised support and guidance to enhance the delivery of services to communities, covering areas such as governance, financial management, and community engagement.

Furthermore, LGANT undertakes infrastructure project management, facilitating the coordination and implementation of vital roads projects aligned with local priorities and regulatory standards.

Taking a multifaceted approach, LGANT plays a pivotal role in empowering local governments and fostering sustainable development across the NT.

As the principal governance advisor to the LGANT Board, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will manage decision-making processes and provide corporate governance support, as well as obtaining engagement from member councils in alignment with shared priorities.

As the representative of LGANT’s members, the CEO will also act as liasion to government agencies and stakeholders by fostering and maintaining effective working relationships.

The CEO will combine these responsibilities with overseeing LGANT’s operations, including human resources, information and communication technology, policy development, advocacy, communications strategies, circular economy initiatives, and roads infrastructure program delivery.

They will also represent LGANT's interests in intergovernmental forums, local government association meetings, and in all relevant correspondence and submissions.

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated experience reporting to a Board, Council or similar elected body and have knowledge and insights into the challenges confronting local governments, either in the NT or other states and territories.

Your visionary leadership, strategic thinking, results focus, advocacy skills, revenue generation, and ability to collaborate and engage with a wide range of individuals, groups, departments, and organisations will be highly regarded, as will relevant qualifications in management, business, public policy, local government, or related disciplines.
